The Town of Montezuma

The town of Montezuma is a small town, a few city blocks wide, with a lot packed into it and the local businesses along the two roads leading two and from town. Montezuma is surrounded by two beaches on the ocean. Stores, restaurants, bars, internet cafes, an ATM cash machine (that is out of order or empty much of the time) and more awaits you in the town of Montezuma.

The have a soccer field (as do all towns in Costa Rica)..

A farmers market on most Saturdays.

It’s generally a quiet town during the day.

And sometimes busy at night.

Montezuma Waterfalls

This the beautiful and wonderful Montezuma Waterfalls just outside of Montezuma, Costa Rica. It’s less than a mile up the road and then a 20-30 minute hike up the river. Wear shoes that you won’t mind getting wet, bring your things in a backpack (or at least a bag with a strap) so that both your hands are free.

Above this waterfall are two more smaller falls, you don’t climb up the front, you go up the back wall. You’ll need two hands for sure to go up this part, it’s not as hard as it looks.

El Chorro Waterfalls

These falls are a two-hour hike up the big beach. Just keep going North-East(ish) up the coast. There is no place to buy any refreshments or snacks as you head out towards these falls, so be sure to bring enough for two-hours out and another two-hours back.
